Almond (Prunus dulcis Miller D. A. Webb (almonds or almond sweet)), of the Rosaceae family, has long been known as a source of essential nutrients; This time, they are in demand as a healthy food with the increasing popularity of the general population and producers.
Study on the composition and characterization of micro and macro almonds have shown that peanuts have many nutritious ingredients such as fatty acids, lipids, amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, as well as secondary metabolites. However, several factors that affect the nutritional quality almonds, including genetic and environmental factors.
Therefore, an investigation to evaluate the impact of different factors on the quality of the almonds are also included. In epidemiological studies, almond consumption has been associated with several therapeutic and protective health benefits. Clinical studies have verified modulatory effect on serum glucose, lipid and uric acid levels, a regulatory role in weight loss, and a protective effect against diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease. In addition, researchers have recently also been confirmed prebiotic potential of almonds.
This review is conducted to emphasize the importance of almonds as a healthy food and a source of beneficial constituents for human health, and to assess the factors that affect the quality of the almond kernel. electronic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and SciFinder is used to investigate a previous article published in almonds in terms of components and potential bioactivity with a special focus on clinical trials
